{You & Me: Nauroze & Rida’s Reception}

Cause it’s you and me and all of the people with nothing to do
Nothing to prove
And it’s you and me and all of the people
And I don’t know why, I can’t keep my eyes off of you
~ Lifehouse.

On a very rainy evening, I was visited by Nauroze. He had called time and again and been a persistent client; who wanted to book me as his ‘wedding photographer’ for his Reception. I was already pre-booked with a three day in a row wedding prior his date so I was a little uncertain to take his booking but decided to meet him in person and decide. The meeting went smoothly and he an aficionado for my ‘Moment-o-graphy.’ Since, we were on the same wavelength I decided that it would be great fun!

On another very chilly and extremely foggy night, I reached Regalia ahead of the time (G-6) for the Reception coverage.  What I saw was very overwhelming, Noroze and Rida had a connection; they could read each other’s minds and they talked via looks and secret smiles. Their comfort level assured me that I was here to do a great job capturing their love for each other.

Her shy smile deepened when she heard him. When his eyes fell on her, joy danced in his eyes. When she wasn’t around, he couldn’t resist a chance to bring up her name..

Hes the kind of guy who’ll put you at ease with his confidence and charm…and he clearly knows how to make her melt & Rida, You’re Gorrrrrrge, f’real! MashAllah! 🙂

Noroz & Rida: You are two of the most wonderful people and I felt incredibly lucky to document your wedding day. Thank you from the bottom of my heart of sharing your lives (and amazing families) with me and allowing me to see just how promising your future is together.

All the shadowy corners of me.

Heys! Hows everyone?
July has been FANTASTIC so far though I did hurt my toe but Its much better now (thanks to all the antibiotics). Since the 8th of July – 12th, Nabia and I have been crazy shooting. A 3 day event was a Baluchi wedding, full of colors, emotions and raptures. The remaining 2 days were a reception dinner & a Mayon (where we ended up running into some old school acquaintances).

We resume shoots next week til the end of July and meetups from the 1st week of August for Sept/Oct & Nov.

So many details to fill you guys with:
– We have introduced *Storybook* Albums – { Getting very good responses from clients bout em! 😀 }
– Gift certificates

Shot post sunset at f9 park – amidst the mosquitoes and the humidity, we had a great time with the couple, who dazzled us with their zeal for photography and unmatched patience. 😀 I can’t wait to start working on their couple session along with the getting ready.

Lastly, I GOT MY VERY OWN *CANON EF 85mm 1.2 II*

The meet-up guideline: How to book me!

Hey guys,
As you know I prefer meeting my clients beforehand; it serves as an ice-breaking session. We also get to know whether our personalities click and if we would want to seal the deal.
So since I’d be resuming meetings from next week , I decided to compile this post which would serve as a pre-requisite for meet-ups.

Before coming to see me, if you go through these – it would be AWESOME, since we’d both end up being on the same page.

We, at Rammal Mehmud Photography are quite indulgent in On-location Sessions merely because:

  • We believe it contributes in building a bond with your wedding day.
  • We want to incorporate that into our moment-o-graphy; which means we document each moment in between the moments by utilizing your venue’s ambiance and locations to the max.
  • If your venue isn’t picturesque enough. You are to make alternate arrangements. We shall not be held responsible.
  • We only offer photography services, so we are not liable if you’re not able to find the perfect point for the shoot. We however, can visit the venue with you before the shoot to generate ideas for the bridal session –  which too depends on the fact that you have confirmed your booking by making a deposit of 50% of the total amount.
  • We do not change backdrops and superimpose elements in your photo-shoots pictures. We are quite engaged in ‘On location’ shoots which entail scenic gardens, pool sides, hotel lobbies and anything to do with making your shots stand out. No – hotel rooms do not fall under this category (UNLESS we want to make use of the mirror).
  • Please follow my blog and my Like page, to check out my style of photography. I am ME and I own my own style. If you want me to copy someone’s then I’m sorry you’re definitely at the wrong place. I do appreciate ‘ideas’ but only hire me for – ME.
  • Please do-not compare Me or my packages with other photographers, theres a reason why I’m different.
  • All prices of the packages are final, no discounts will be offered.

  1. Before the actual meetup, it would be best that you catch up with us on *Skype*. My id being *vrm.photography*. During that session, we can talk a bit bout your day, how you want everything to be and OF-COURSE the albums that we include in the package.
  2. Before paying for the selected bridal photography package, please ask for the *Terms & Conditions* form, so that we can discuss it together (Regarding your opinion on it)  so there is no ambiguity at both ends. We would expect you to take a print out and submit the filled form, 2 weeks before your event.
  3. Do expect a mail from our end, post your 50% deposition. The mail would enlist the contents of the package  for both of us (in black & white), just to let you know of what you’ve paid for and what I’m expected of.
  4. The Hi-resolution pictures shall be stored in our archiving system for a Year from wedding date. On approaching the 1 year anniversary; you can either choose to pay us an archiving fee or buy the Hi-resolution lot. If either option isn’t chosen then the folder shall be removed from our backup.
  5. Please go through this old post of mine too.

Hope this helps you make an informed decision! =)

“My dates have been finalized and the first thing I did was come here and inform u :| I cant risk losing u :|”

Thats an excerpt from a client’s mail.

You have no idea how overwhelmed I felt after reading this! It was perfect – this girl wanted me to photograph her since LAST summer and was waiting for her BIG day to arrive.
As it turns out, I wouldn’t be able to click her BIG day after all. Reason being: The dates she mentioned are already booked for MARCH.

So I decided to blog about it.

The perks of booking dates ahead of time:
* Due to the ample amount of time till your wedding, you and I can actually sit down & discuss ideas.
* I can visit the venue with you and plan certain shots around specific venue details to help you optimize the best of your big day, So when you will reflect back, the shots will help you remember the nervous jitters and the giggles in between.
* I can assess the level of comfort level you have with you spouse and translate that better into an image.
* I can get creative with my lighting arrangements and give your shots an oomph factor!
* When the couple meets me beforehand, the initial hesitation is also eliminated as this meetup acts as an ice breaking session.
* There would be NO date-overlapping fear! 😛

Hope this helps you make an informed decision!

Stay photogenic,

Been soh long.

*Insert Rant here*

Hey everyone, would resume blogging from this week. Really missed it. First of all I wanted to mention that theres a *Giveaway* taking place on my
Some businesses have been kind enough to collaborate with me on this venture. We are giving away freebies till the end of this month, with a twist that the winner has to invite 5 friends to my page and the sponsor’s in order to claim the goodies! =)

Secondly, I have started a *Hall of shame* thread on my page, under the discussions tab. Would be listing down all the cell numbers, annoying the crap out of me by calling non stop and texting me crap. So if you need numbers to use as a graffiti element or to have fun with. Please be my guest. lol.
Lastly, I shot for Glitz & Glam by Alina Ali. this weekend.
Please check it out.

‘High’ got me higher.

Just yesterday during a meetup with a client (Hi Sana! :] ), we were talking about improving one’s photography habits. We were deep in conversation, when she said she has a dslr at home, which she doesn’t use much – and I had to let her know what a miracle of a project, the 365 is.

So what is the 365 project?!

As you guys know I’m a self taught photographer / Visual Artist. I learned everything online – from friends, and websites like flickr.com. I got to know some MAJOR inspirational photographers on flickr.com and they are still my bestest of friends and my energy capsules.

I took up a challenge ( like most budding photographers), to hone my photography skills by taking a shot daily, editing and uploading it online to seek constructive criticism and feedback. I guess that did the trick and I’m still known for my water-drop, macro, bokeh & smoke photography & gratifying visual art.

A year after I uploaded high, I received an email from Lerner Publishing Group who were interested in using it for the cover of a children’s storybook. As you can guess, I was WAY overwhelmed but 1 – Didn’t know if it was for real. 2 – Didn’t know whom to seek advice concerning this.

So My sister & I, searched bout the company online,  searched about the pricing of such publications, about copyrights and royalties. Most of the flickr photographers living abroad helped me out too. After all the paper work, I signed the deal for $900. Later I was contacted again since they had to print trade catalogs and got $500 more, while the copyrights and the royalties remained with me and we agreed on one time use of the image with 20,000 copies of the book.

Here are the two books that they sent me, as promised along with the payment in my paypal account. 😀

The client that I met yesterday was really surprised, as why I had not blogged about it. So here it is! 😀 Thanks for reminding me to put this up, hope this proves inspirational for the upcoming photographers/ artists. Not everything online is a SCAM, once you have your homework done and you believe in yourself. 🙂

.FAQ.

Heyy guys! 🙂 Howsiee!
Since the wedding seasons is in full swing, most of you are visiting me to view my portfolio and to discuss your venue and how you would prefer your event photography.

Since I don’t have a FAQ section as yet, I decided to include some of the frequently asked questions here.

Q. Where are you based?
I’m based in Islamabad, F-11. Once the client confirms her visit, she gets a mail/ text from me containing my address.

Q. Do you have your own studio?
I do have a studio, which is at my home. I’m furnishing it at the moment and Insha’Allah would be ready by the start of Nov.

Q. Can you facilitate bride-groom session at their bridal suite or at the hotel?
As a matter of fact, Yes! I carry my studio equipment to the hotel and have shot many sessions in the bridal suite. Sometimes clients prefer a shoot at the hotel because it seems like an easier option to them.

Q. Do you offer event coverage services?
Yes, I do. Infact I love covering events! =) People are slowly moving towards a new trend in event coverage, which is called “Photo journalism’. They prefer a mix of it as well as the traditional coverage.

Q. What is photo-journalism?
Photo-journalism simply means story telling in images, mostly candids. Weddings are not about photographs, its how one wants to remember their big day in a photograph, not about the moment but the moments in between. Covering every minor detail of the wedding, let it be the decor of the hall/ venue, raw emotions or those timeless moments! 🙂 People often want a fusion of both the Traditional event coverage & Photojournalism though. Traditional coverage along becomes a bit boring because its the usual change of places of different families on the stage where the bride and groom are sitting.

Q. How do I book a date? Can I book a date 4 months in advance?
To book a date, the client needs to visit me in person. She can then have a look at my portfolio and if she likes my style of work, book me by making an advance payment of 50%. That actually makes it a lot easier for me since I then mark their date as *SAVED* on my calender with their name + location. ( Ya, I’m a bit old school. lol) Yes, I’m up for advance bookings.

Q. Do you prints the pics yourself?
I have made an agreement with Fuji Lab, to let *ME* handle printing pics of females who observe ‘Parda’ and do not want males to do that for them. That way *I* would be sending the print command, making minor adjustments on their Fuji software and getting prints – no male member of Fuji Lab would be allowed in until I get done.

So yaa pretty much – its a YES! 🙂

Q. Do you get fed up of replying to mails again and again? 😀
I don’t care how many times a client calls, emails or inboxes me. I know its a high involvement project and requires a lot of research/ questions, so I’m willing to answer anything related to the project until you are fully satisfied.

I guess this is all for now, if you have any other queries..

Meeting clients & Building a bond with them.

Hey everyone! 🙂 Hows Ramadan going? MashaAllah mines going good!
Besides fasting and praying, I’m utilizing my time these days to meet up with clients who I’d be shooting in Sept – InshaAllah.

I’m a peoples person, like I’ve stated in my previous blog and just to get the dice rolling, a meetup is the perfect excuse to actually get to know the bride and how she wants her special day to be photographed.

At times the clients visit me and when it’s almost impossible to meet, I visit them at their respective places. Not that I love discussing ideas and communicating what I can do for them – I like bonding with them. The bonding session makes me see how the bride actually want her shots to be. 🙂 Like for example, I visited a client today – whose engagement’s due in a few weeks. I asked her what she expects of me and she actually shared her favorite wedding photo collage vids from youtube with me! We discussed the color of her outfit and how the stage would be embellished and most importantly, how the hall would be illumined.
Moral of the story? I ended up realizing that the kind of work that I so wanted to produce and couldn’t because of some traditional barriers – I had the license to do that now with hers! 🙂 She was open to experimentation, she almost gasped when I talked bout *Bokeh* photography with her and pointed it out in a few example shots for her! =)

So at the end of the day, I felt happie and again realised how Allah (swt) was letting me do what I wanted to. MashaAllah!
=) Lo and behold!
